She has the Zora's Sacred Gem, I never noticed that in the game, unless that's just an element you thought would be cool, either way, it is. The fish brings the Zora real world appearance very believable, you picked a great location to bring a Zelda character to the real world, she's really in her element here!

She does! This costume is very much intended to be game accurate so I didn't add anything myself. It's not quite the same design as the Zora's sapphire from previous games but close enough the motif is evident. It was a fun shoot!

I guess after Link was done in either timeline (except the Downfall Timeline, of course) someone would have retrieved the Sacred Gems to close the Temple of Time...I wonder where the other Sacred Gems are, though? It makes sense that she would have the Zora's Sapphire, though, because only women have the right to give it to their betrothed, though it's strange for her to be the only Zora ever to have clothes, but you did a great job replicating this Queen Rutela exclusive oddity.

When I first played TP with my siblings, I thought Prince Ralis was imitating Link, that he'd be an enemy and was pretending to be the hero or something...I guess that's how Majora's Mask got Zora Link.

Anyway, that got off topic fast.Sweating a little...

I like the idea of the Zora's Sapphire being attached to the outfit like that, again, very stunning outfit. I imagine so, any bystanders may have thought the /inside/ of the aquarium was your next picture target.;) (Wink)

Ooo please do get me started talking about Zora design. I've given up trying to connect the timelines in Zelda games. I used to love to theorize but they've made so many games now and they just don't connect as well as some of them used to. (Yes I own Hyrule Historia, I just don't subscribe to that canon in my own little world. ;)  )

On the Rutela wearing clothes debate.. having studied her 3D model, I know there aren't really any indications of seams to show she's wearing clothes. I was able to hide a lot of my seams with her jewelry, but I had to do my best to incorporate the vents at her shoulder which should actually look like part of her body. She also has what appear to be gills at her ribs, which I never got around to airbrushing on my costume because my torso is so different from hers it was tough to rework the scaling.

I'm ok with the idea that she has elaborate hip fins that form a skirt (wouldn't be any weirder than New Ruto's non hydrodynamic, backwards-pointed boob modesty fins). On the model, Rutela's skirt has a couple of layers that wrap asymmetrically around like the petals of a flower. There's also the fact that in the game she's a ghost, so her design could be more spirit-like than she would have appeared in life. (This makes me want to re-draw her with visible legs.)

It's kind of a weird design, to be honest. Her head-tail has no fin at the end, not that Zoras have ever been consistent or that head-tails make sense as actual swimming propulsion due to stress on the neck. Also why would she have grown coral for hair?

By the way, the first Zora to have clothes was King Zora, who wore a cape in Link to the Past and again in Ocarina, and then there's Lulu, who had a whole dress in Majora's Mask, so there is precedent if Rutela is clothed, but I don't think she is.

I'm prattling and this is a silly subject to get so into, but I do enjoy Zoras quite a bit. :)

I guess I don't have that many Zelda games on my played list, at least, I don't think I do...I know I didn't play "A Link to the Past" yet. I like thinking about the things in one game that can be tied in with other games from Zelda, like the double Clawshots in Skyward Sword that eventually lead to Twilight Princess, but then, it could just be that it was a good gameplay element to have...I guess it's really whatever way you like to look at it, though.

I don't really see a need for any particular pattern either, but Skyward Sword doesn't have to be the beginning game either, why can't it come after Twilight Princess, you know? It could be the other side of Ocarina of Time, where the timelines merge back together...which explains why so much was done several times, Impa having already met Link, yet, the magical tree Link grows later wasn't present, even though Zelda had already given her the purple bracelet. Rage

Wait, new Ruto as in OoT Ruto got remade, or is it about Hyrule Warriors, or were you referring to Rutela as the new Ruto? :o (Eek)

Yeah, she may just have salmon tinted skin...maybe all that Reekfish she has some obsession with. I mean, her kid is a master at fishing for them, I think she taught him, which means she either ate so many her skin turned colors, or she swam around them so much her skin was permanently dyed. I doubt the latter but I imagine it has a slim chance of happening. Sweating a little...

I don't even know where the term head-tail comes from, but it's probably insulated against electricity, which accounts for it's size, if that's the case it may not be too heavy...but now I question how King Zora got so large. TBH, your comment on the head-tail made me arrive at that conclusion.
Well, I hadn't noticed they had fins at the end of their head-tails, but it would probably...do something...maybe to help them maneuver underwater somehow, I really don't know, it'd be interesting to find out some physics professor played the game and wrote a piece about how the Zoras make sense...or if a physics prof is the reason why Zoras are like that.

I guess it's Reekfish bait, Ralis said they liked a certain kind of coral, maybe she decided to grow it on her head? How long does coral take to grow, though? Unless she spent all her time underwater I don't see the coral faring well as a headdress.I am a dummy!  (Why else would there be a dummy face?)

Ah, yeah, I didn't know King Zora had a cape then, too, but I don't really think of OoT King Zora having clothes...I guess a cape counts, but Lulu is the best example and I really should have remembered her blue dress.Oops!

Yeah, it's a fun topic to chat about.:) (Smile)

I think there's room for more detail in the Zelda worlds than what's highlighted by the games, so I don't think Rutela's color or coral need to be attributed to reekfish. It could just be that color and shape variation occurs more commonly in royal Zora lineages or something as elegant as that.
"Insulated against electricity?" Not sure why that would be a thing?
I sort of invented "head-tail" to describe the body part because I had to work on making one for so long and needed a term. Physics likely weren't a concern, considering all the other silly ways Zora's don't make much sense re: hydrodynamics. I can only examine Zoras so far before I have to admit the designs are impractical and just enjoy them because they're interesting or pretty.
The reason I don't subscribe to Hyrule Historia timelines and split timelines is just because to me it seems retconned, like they're reaching to appease fans desires to connect everything together, when they probably didn't consider it too much as they focused on making each game fun and individual in its time. Some games are easy to string together and others need a big leap, so I think of those groups of games as alternate versions / different story lines and shrug it off.
"Dummy face?" What are you referring to?

Or maybe that's the Zoran version of a tan? Or Zoran version of being pale...pink on a commonly blue race, I wonder what the idea for her was?

Well, in OoT there are mainly electric monsters, and there's lots of animals IRL that use electricity to hunt, not to mention in MM Zora Link seems to attack with electricity...I can't remember, were there electric monsters in Majora's Mask? I don't know of any instance except if someone was cruel enough to toss little Ruto at electric monsters in OoT, I didn't even let the bubble looking things touch her...and ended up throwing my whole body at them.

Yeah, Zora's are very beautiful, even in Ocarina of Time, with their extraterrestrial trope eyes...but those probably assist with deep sea hunting...though in OoT, the Zroa in the Zora's Domain shop seemed unaccustomed to hunting fish.

It really feels like they're trying to please the fans a little much, huh? But as long as there's nothing to suggest for or against a timeline, can they really say there's a timeline? There's no overwhelming evidence, Hero's Shade from TP seemed like something else, the shield was different from his Hylian Shield, but that's the thing about them, they say, "Just like the ones Hylian Knights use", but you're the only one carrying around such a shield...guess it's reasonable to say that it's just one Hylian Shield design, but he got a new shield...he shouldn't have done that!

Yeah, I'd like to say they're different retellings, or different ways the world after Skyward Sword could grow into Hyrule. Different versions of SS's future, I guess you could say. I shrug anyway...I don't even need a reason.Giggle

I am a dummy!  <-- That face.
